BRANSFORD Golf Club staged another hugely successful Ladies Open Three Ball Alliance.

Once again the event was blessed by fine weather and attracted 72 entries, representing 12 different clubs from around the county and further afield.

The winning trio comprised of two home course golfers and one from Sapey - namely Bransford’s Heather Buckett and Trish Godwin and Janet Powell who posted a match-winning total of 83 points.

This was just enough to see them over the line with a three-ball from The Worcestershire - Jenny Bishop, Jackie Marks and Isabelle Carmichael pushing them all the way to finish just a point behind on 82 Third were Ann Hayden, Sue Gwynn and Tory Brettell. The Sapey trio finished on 76 and pipped Bransford’s Jenny Bennett, Lesley Lammas and Jodie Bennett on count-back.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Leigh Thomas (Bransford) on the fifth and on the 15th Jenny Musson (The Worcestershire).

One of the competition’s organisers, June Atkinson, said: “The weather was once again very kind to us and the course was in great condition. Everyone who took part seemed to enjoy themselves and we received lots of lovely comments about the whole occasion - the course, the catering and so on.”

The day’s raffle raised £164 which will be donated to Cancer Research UK, which is Lady Captain Pauline Wetton’s nominated charity this year, and was chosen ‘in memory of dear friends taken from us too soon’.

Bransford Seniors encountered differing fortunes in the past week in their summer club match programme.

Playing two matches in three days, both away from home, they gained a 4 1/2 - 1 1/2 win at Evesham but then lost at Churchill and Blakedown 4 1/2 - 3 1/2.

Conditions for both matches were just about ideal with the nine-holes courses at Fladbury and Churchill both beginning to look their best after all that winter could throw at them.

The efforts of the greens-staff at both courses were to be commended with fairways and greens all encouraging positive play.
