MALVERN Victoria Bowling Club is “back on track” and ready for the new season after overcoming a “serious fire”.

Last month, a fire destroyed a 25ft long, 10ft tall perimeter hedge and damaged the bowling green, but the club have been working hard to restore it to full health.

Malvern Victoria start the campaign with an away match against Tewkesbury Bowling Club tomorrow (2.30pm).

A club spokesperson said: “Despite the serious fire that seriously damaged our perimeter hedge and scorched the green, Malvern Victoria is back on track and prepared for the new season.

“The single rink that is out of action is being restored to full health by our greenkeeper, Malcolm Smith, ably assisted by Henry Steer and other club members.

“We are confident that all the damage will be rectified soon.

“We are looking forward to our opening match and hope we can start with a victory.”

The club will also be holding an open day on Sunday from 2pm.

“We are a warm and friendly club and would welcome an influx of new members to enjoy this healthy and absorbing sport,” the spokesperson added. We urge anyone interested to come to open day.”

Meanwhile, an open day is being held at Manor Park Outdoor Bowls Club on Sunday.

Equipment and tuition will be provided along with light refreshments.

It takes place from 2pm until 6pm. There will also be sessions on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm until 5pm.
