THREE special competitions were held at Bransford Golf Club to celebrate its 25th anniversary year.

The Joe Farr Memorial Trophy and Anniversary Cup took place last Saturday before the anniversary weekend was concluded with a fun team event on Monday.

Ollie Walker (2) and Jack Cullity (0) clinched the pairs better-ball stableford Joe Farr competition with an outstanding winning score of 51. The duo were three ahead of second placed Graham Wallace (1) and Dave Lewis (11) with Jason Beck (16) and Nigel Perry (6) third on 47. Peter Anthony’s team had 43 as did the husband and wife pairing of Rob and Pauline Wetton who usually play off 23 and 27 respectively.

Then came a clutch of teams on 41 - Barry Benge and Gerry McCurry, Chris Hall and Roy Burston, Steve Bourne’s team, Eliot Payne’s team, Trevor and June Atkinson and Lee Tally’s team.

The nearest pin prizes were won by Trevor Atkinson on the fifth and Sean Johnston on the 13th.

A total of 72 members took part in the Anniversary Cup and it saw another excellent display from lady member Coral Handley (25), who totted up an impressive 43 points to win by three from Wallace (1).

Thornton Bridges was third on 39 (24), the same score as Eve Lines (26) and other leading scores were Chris Eyers (6) and Jason Beck (16) both 38 and Jodie Bennett (16) and Leigh Thomas (18) both on 37.

Nearest pin prizes went to Simon Gent, Brendan Tally, Andy Kennedy, Wallace, Bridges and Jason Keane.

Around 100 members and guests including the club’s first ever member Dave Hampshire attended the anniversary dinner at the Bank House Hotel.

During the evening a souvenir booklet of the club’s first 25 years was launched and a copy of Alan Wallcroft’s 32-page publication was handed to every member. A raffle was also held which raised £215 for the fund set up in the wake of the Manchester attack.

Bransford Seniors made it four wins on the spin as they defeated Cleobury Mortimer. Although they lost the first match they quickly recovered to win the next three pairings and made sure of the win when the fifth match was halved to secure a winning margin of 3 1/2 to 2 1/2.

Results: Dave Miller (18) and John Phillips (21) lost to Trevor Warman (18) and Dave Brownhill (19) 3&2, Trevor Atkinson (15) and Neil Sheldon (21) won against Ian Dorrell (6) and Keith Gardner (19) 6&5, Ivor Lloyd (18) and Paul Edlin (23) won against Peter Stevens (14) and Dennis Nock (20) 6&5, Roger Clark (23) and Mike Holmes (28) won against Tom Groves (20) and Roger Bartlett (19) 2&1, Mike Davidge (17) and Brian Lawrence (22) halved with Peter Parker (22) and Roy Dudley (22) and Rob Blake (15) and Dick Bettsworth (25) lost against John Haywood (19) and Chris Whitehead (26) 2&1.
