THE Worcestershire Golf Club celebrated the 90th anniversary of their move from Malvern Common to its present site at Wood Farm in Malvern Wells.

Member David Thomas hosted an informative history evening covering the club from its inception to the present day and featured many old photographs.

The club started at Malvern Common at 1879 before moving to Wood Farm in 1927.

The original course architect Dr Alister Mackenzie was to become famous for designing Augusta National - home to The Masters – Cypress Point in the USA, Lahinch in Ireland and Royal Melbourne in Australia.

In recognition of the connection, the club was invited to join The Alister Mackenzie Society and hosted a team of the society’s golfers.

The visitors came from as far afield as Lancashire, Derbyshire and Somerset and expressed themselves impressed both by the course’s conditioning and its playing interest.

The home side won the contest 4 ½ : 2 ½.

The winning pairs were Terry Cox and Phil Bayliss, Pete Basten and Miceal Hanna, and Di Meakin and Pat Rose.

There were also halves from Steve Lloyd and Dave Thomas, John Williams and Barry Caswell, and Gordon Herbert and John Davies.
