THE Worcestershire’s ladies took to a Malvern Wells course in superb condition for a qualifying round for the Coronation Foursomes.

A high-low handicap combination was hard to beat and on this occasion the skill of Liz Evans (12 handicap) was ably supported by the steady play of Jan Bartlett (30).

Returning with 39 stableford points they were three ahead of ladies’ captain Elsie Kelsall and Hazel Cartledge with Diane Meakin and Mary Horrobin third on 33.

The nine-hole stableford was won by Pauline Taylor with 15 on countback from Margaret Duncan with Norma Pottinger on 14.

A ladies’ scratch team led by Meakin travelled to Ladbrook Park in Tanworth-in-Arden but lost 4½-½.

They will need to get results in the remaining two home games to keep their place in Division Three.

A 12-strong team of ladies travelled to Sapey to play the last Redgrove Trophy match.

Donated by Lynn Bayley, a former lady captain of both clubs, the cup had been played for annually since 1990 and there was much regret at the demise of the event.

With the best eight stableford scores to count the home side took the honours with a comfortable win.

The seniors continued their packed programme of events, starting with their captain’s day.

Although the weather was overcast and windy nearly 40 players turned out in good spirits to support Nigel Teale.

John Wright won with 40 stableford points on countback from Tony Cox with club captain John Williams third on 39.

Barry Caswell, who came home fourth on 37, carded the lowest gross score of the day.

The inter-club match squad recorded another good win at home to The Vale 6½-1½.

Teale and Tony Rogers won one-up, Andrew Colston and John Duncan one-up, Les Kinmond and Tony Ditchfield 3&2, Tony Pawson and Andrew Reeves one-up, Rick Lewis and Terry Cox 4&3 and Tony Cox and Les Facer 6&5.

Maurice Moore and Ron Gordon halved their match while David Radley and Keith Hitchcock lost 2&1 The first of four tankard competitions saw Peter Kirton take the honours with 39 points ahead of Trevor Simmons on 38 and Wright on 37.

The men's June medal was won by Nigel Allam from Division Two with 64 nett.
