HENRY Walker showed his strength in three disciplines as he finished third overall in the full Isoman event in Redditch.

The Malvern Triathlon Club member completed the seven-mile swim in three hours 44 minutes, the 61.7-mile bike section in 3.20 and the full marathon in 4.18 at Arrow Park.

Steve Butler was among 1,244 competitors to tackle the Holkam Outlaw half ironman. He overcame persistent cramp in the swim and run sections to finish in the top 20 per cent of men in an impressive 5.17.

Jonathan Sage secured top spot in the senior veteran category and was fourth male overall at the Bowood House Triathlon. Competing alongside 32 endurance athletes Sage finished in 52.06 after doing the swim in 7.59, the bike section in 26.23 and run in 12.11.

Maria Dineen tackled the Cotswold big swim involving 300 competitors across the one and two-mile distances.

Dineen came fourth in the women’s super-vet age group, completing the two-mile swim in 1.02.

Jayne Ackroyd, David Dutton, Lorraine and Clive Brooks, Clifford Berry and Vikki Sivertsen represented the club on the 1.8km swim, 28-mile ride and 5km run at the 113 Cotswold Classic training day.

More than 20 children aged seven to 13 attended the launch of the club’s youth training section at Malvern College’s running track.

At £1 per week on a pay-as-you-go basis the training is open to all children wanting to give triathlon a go.

Youth summer training takes place every Tuesday evening from 6pm until 7pm until August 27.
