BRANSFORD Golf Club hosted their hugely popular and successful annual Seniors Open Three Ball Alliance which attracted a record number of golfers.

With 43 teams competing, 129 golfers travelled from clubs such as Atherstone, Lilleybrook, Minchinhampton and Filton along with Stonebridge and Sandwell.

Nearer to home, Gaudet Luce, Droitwich, The Worcestershire and Sapey took part as well as several trios from the host club.

The eventual outcome saw the Bransford three-ball of Andy Lamb, Phil Spencer and Andy Harris just edge into first place by a point with four points covering the top four teams.

Lamb, Spencer and Harris finished with an excellent haul of 88 points, just pipping Stonebridge’s Graham Bilsland, Stewart Fairweather and Frank Summers on 87, with Peter Gilliver, Peter Butler and Robert Broadhurst of Atherstone a further point down on 86, while Bransford’s Bill Bowen, Mike Davidge and Brian Lawrence were fourth on 85.

Other leading scores were Harry Godwin, Bob McGrath and Brian Taylor (Bransford), Alan Pratt, Jim Clarkson and Chris Huntbatch (Gaudet Luce) and David Leeson, Terry Dwight and John Dennis (Minchinhampton) all on 82.

The next major open event on the Seniors calendar at Bransford is the Pairs Open on September 14.

The men’s July Stableford was won by Gordon Jack in Division One with 38 points, one ahead of Andy Lammas with Paul Ramsden third on 36.

Division Two was also close with Colin While leading the way on 41 from Karl Barnett and Trevor Lawson who both finished on 40.

The July monthly medal went the way of Stuart Crump in Division One whose nett 67 was two ahead of Dave Lewis. The scores were Crump 78-11=67, Lewis 79-10=69 and Ollie Walker 71-2=69, and in Division Two - Craig Barry 89-18=71, Harry Corbett 93-20=73 and Jason Beck 89-14=75.
