MALVERN Cycle Sport competitors enjoyed success at the National Trophy Series in south Wales.

Conditions were unseasonably favourable with sunshine and light winds in Abergavenny which meant for a fast, dry course featuring open field, technical wooded sections, steep banks and many hairpin bends.

First up for Malvern was Harriet Harnden in the cyclo-cross junior ladies' section and a convincing race took her to the top spot of the podium.

In a combined men's under 23 and elite category, the racing was fast and furious from the gun and the relentless pace never ending.

Malvern's Ross Harnden and Stan Pritchard starred in the under 23 section given the little cyclo-cross training they had been able to do in preparation.

Eventually against a tough field of athletes, Ross Harnden finished ninth and Pritchard 12th.

In the same race, Liam Killeen represented Malvern in the elite field over a fast pace with a good start paramount.

After lap one, Killeen was back in 10th position but despite a small amount of preparation his natural speed, determination and resolve moved him steadily up through the field for a fine fourth place, just 40 or so seconds from the podium.

In a local event at Titterstone Quarry, Clee Hill, the club's junior members were out in full force.

In the boys' under 14 race Elliot Roberts finished ninth in his first race in the category.

The under 12s saw Jack Bristow manage 10th and Edward Berry 15th.

For the girls, Emily Moseley took home a podium place in third with Harriet Dale fourth.

There was an under 10s race win for the club with Pippa Dale triumphant while William Moseley got fourth and Tom Bristow sixth.

Finally, in the under sixes race George Berry was fifth.
