THE Worcestershire Golf Club's men, women, seniors and juniors gathered for the final presentation evening of the year.

Peter Lupino, Phil Birch, Mark Read, Tom Howells, Steve Homes, Patrick McIlroy, Sam Macleod, John Green, Nigel Allam, Neil Hide, April Wilding-Greene and Harry Brimmell were among the successful members.

Meanwhile, despite temperatures being only just above freezing The Worcestershire’s competitions were hotly contested.

Sam Macleod and Patrick McIlroy, fresh from their success in the captain’s greensomes, won the winter four-ball better-ball round three.

They posted 48 stableford points, two clear of Stuart Webb and Roger Turner. Adam Wood and Brian Pleass finished third on countback on 46.

Eighteen pairs braved the cold and format to contest the first mixed foursomes stableford of the year.

Andy Turner and Jan Kirkland had another good showing with 35 points but lost out on countback to Andrew and Sally Dare. Both were pipped to top spot by Peter Hill and Liz Pool on 36.

Frozen ground, a biting wind and sunshine were replaced by a heavy, rolling mist and soggy ground conditions underfoot but 24 players ventured out for a three-ball alliance.

Lady captain Sue Boardman, accompanied by June Jones and Jan Kirkland, won with 39 points.

Behind them Pat Rose, Hazel Cartledge and Pool got 36, beating Elsie Kelsall, Davina Taylor and Cathy Harris on countback.

In the ladies’ winter match-play knockout, Kate Foster, Rose, Jones, Jane Poynder, Julie Saunders, Diane Meakin and Boardman all progressed to round two.
