Karate kid earns black belt in tough days test

A KARATE kid earned his black belt after a gruelling day of tests in Malvern.

Scott Marsh successfully earned his 1st Dan cadet karate black belt after a very demanding grading examination by Ultimate Karate at their town base.

The 14-year-old's test included a host of challenges such as stamina training and practical self-defence.

Scott also had to show the ability to deal with several attackers, some of whom were armed during his grulling series of tests.

This was followed by Jiyu Kumite that consisted of five minutes of non-stop fighting with multiple experienced assailants. It forms a right of passage for all Ultimate Karate black belt candidates.

Other students who successfully gained advanced levels of brown belt at the event, held on May 31, included Phil Tandy (2nd kyu) and Ed Mann and Holly Welford (3rd kyu).

To join the club (minimum age of four) and learn Kwon Do, Aikido, Ju Jitsu and kickboxing, call chief instructor Neil Bennett on 07801 846055 or email him at: ultimate-karate@hotmail.co.uk.
