MALVERN United angling club kicked-off the new season campaign with the Sandford Series, a league of five evening contests held midweek on both river and pool during June and July.

First place in the opening match on the Severn at Holdfast went to last season's league winner Neil Humpage, drawn on peg 24. Neil used a groundbait feeder and maggots to tempt 5-15-0 of eels.

In second place was Mike Spragg who employed similar tactics on peg 16 to net 4-5-0. In third spot was Mick Cooper with 3-12-0.

The second contest took place on the pool at Mathon, with Neil Humpage taking the honours again. Drawn on favoured peg 20, he landed 12 carp to 6lb for a winning weight of 34-12-0.

Mick Cooper took match three with 3-14-0 of eels. Mike Spragg took first place in game four.

Drawn on peg five, Spragg pole fished the margins with meat to land ten carp for a winning weight of 32-11-0.

Cooper was third with 19-12-0 from peg 21, consisting of four carp.
