Weekend mayhem at Eastnor

MOUNTAIN Mayhem, the UK’s toughest mountain bike endurance event, wrapped up following a weekend of mud, adrenaline, muscle cramps and, mostly, sunshine.

The event, which saw 12,040 laps and over 105,350 miles covered throughout the course of the 24-hour race at Eastnor Deer Park, came to an exhilarating close at 2pm on Sunday, with riders pushing the boundaries to complete the final nine-mile circuit.

A total of 2,351 riders took part across the nine-mile circuit in teams of up to 10 or as solo riders, while a 15,000 strong crowd of spectators stormed the grounds to cheer the riders on through the mud.

Victorious was Matt Page who took the Original Source Mountain Mayhem men’s Solo title, having clocked up 26 laps, his fastest in just 49 minutes.

Taking the title for the women was Meggie Bichard, completing 19 circuits and achieving a personal best lap time of one hour three minutes.

The fastest lap over the course of the race was completed in just 38 minutes. Demonstrating true team spirit were Team Scott and BAD CC Big Guns, taking first place for the elite mixed team and men’s open respectively.

Presenting the punished riders with their winning cheques was event founder and race organiser, Patrick Adams. He said: “There are many components that put the event together and this year has really been amazing. “Riders, spectators, ambulance teams, and our headline sponsors, Original Source, it’s been a huge team effort and a fantastic event.

“We want to be back even bigger and better next year.”

Children enjoyed a taste of the spirit with Mini Mayhem, a course for little riders to test their skills, with the winner, Antonia Pick, aged 12, celebrating her victory.
