Swan still flying after dispatching Belmore

HANLEY Swan kept up their Cheltenham League Division Three title pursuit with a 5-2 triumph at lowly Belmore after bouncing back from two goals down.

Belmore grabbed two quick goals from a defensive mix-up and following a corner that should have been cleared.

But Hanley settled down and began to control the game with Jon Palmer pulling one back from the penalty spot after being brought down.

Andy Rogers hit the bar before good work from Matt Atkinson and Chris Bunn set up Palmer to level the scores.

The hard-working Cathal McTernan gave Hanley a deserved lead at half-time and they continued to press from the restart.

Palmer completed his hat-trick and McTernan, chasing what seemed a lost cause, smashed the ball into the net from an acute angle.

Hanley’s next game is at title rivals Shurdington Rovers today (3pm).
