THE Paperstation Malvern League handicap competition’s main final will be next Thursday between Manor Park Pumas and Manor Park Travellers.

Travellers recorded a hardfought 442-396.5 (195.5) win over Malvern Tornados in the semis thanks to a superb all-round team effort from Martin Snee, Toby Wren and Stewart Moss.

They were victorious in all 40 sets played against their Division Two opponents but Tom James, Andy Banks and Noel O’Neill pushed them close at times.

Division One side Pumas triumphed 434-385.5 (220.5) against lower-ranked Abbeydowne in the other semi-final.

Dave Hallam, Jon Dyke and Dave Knowles won all their singles sets with the former conceding only 32 points in his 12 sets.

But an excellent performance in the doubles by Bill Lucas and Roy Holland restricted Pumas to just 15 points.

In the secondary competition, runaway Division One leaders Broadheath Belters overcame a 321.5-point handicap against Devils to win 440-427.5 (321.5).

League champion Michael Siket dropped only 20 points in his 12 sets, while Sasha Grokhotov and Brett Brining also shone.

Devils’ Liz Hallam, Paul Lythgoe and James Mulka performed bravely but could not take the additional 13 points for victory.

Belters will play Crackpots ‘E’ in the final after they defeated lower-ranked Scuttling Gang 412- 327.5 (49.5).

Colin Dolding lost only one of his 12 sets and Richard Maddrell also only dropped one.

Belters have gone back to the top of Division One following a 9-1 win over Ledbury Collection.

Siket and Grokhotov both won their three singles and the doubles, while Nigel Foreshew hit back straight away with a consolation success.

Collection then defeated Manor Park Pumas 7-3 as Foreshew (3), Bryan Farr (2) and Ady Marshall all triumphed alongside the doubles.

Dyke, Hallam and John Hunt replied.

Ledbury moved up to third in the table following a 7-3 win over Pterodactyl Old Boys as Foreshew, Harry Jutle and Marshall all won twice. Foreshew and Jutle also took the doubles, while Old Boys’ Dave White was unbeaten in his singles.

Collection also triumphed 6-4 over bottom-of-the-table Crackpots ‘E’ with Marshall (3), Bob Marshall (2) and Farr all on song.

Richard Maddrell won twice for Crackpots and Dolding once before they combined to take the doubles.
