MALVERN turned on the style to thump mid-table Leamington 66-17 at Spring Lane in Midlands Two West (South).

They had won 28-19 at Leamington in late September but this time secured the try bonus point in the first six minutes.

Ieuan Mustow intercepted a pass and went through to give Rob Cook an easy conversion.

Fielding the restart kick, Malvern again ran at Leamington with Mustow breaking and feeding Cook whose pinpoint cross-field kick found Ben King to score in the corner.

Cook's conversion hit the post but then he sold three dummies before feeding Niall Potter-Farrant under the posts and then adding the extras.

Malvern's forwards piled on the pressure as an offload from Richard Hobbs set up a move which ended in Cook darting through to score and convert after six minutes.

Non-stop dynamo Sam Parsons hoovered up anything loose and man of the match Liam Roleston went close to scoring.

Jack Longley sped through to charge down an attempted clearance before Malvern won a line-out, passing the ball quickly across for Mustow to break and bag his second try with Cook again converting.

After a period of possession, Leamington scored a converted try.

But Malvern won a penalty 15 metres out and a well-controlled catch-and-drive move took the pack forward before hooker Glen Potter bagged the try with Cook making the score 40-7 at the interval.

Longley's and Jon Bywater's sterling line-out work ensured second-half dominance.

They stole a Leamington ball with the play spread for skipper Tom Hale to score and Cook convert.

Claiming the restart kick, Bywater linked with Potter and then Mustow with Cook on hand to score and convert.

Hale scored his second in the corner and Potter showed a good turn of speed to barrel through under the posts for Cook's final conversion.

In the final 10 minutes, Leamington scored two consolation tries but firm defence prevented them from securing a bonus point.

Malvern's confidence on the ball showed how well training has prepared them.

The forwards are coming into their own, especially in the set-pieces with Nick Tisdale's coaching making them more secure.

Roleston has grown into his new position as a loosehead prop with his strength and speed making him a danger in the loose.

Kai Alton has been a dependable presence at tighthead.

The bonus of seasoned veterans on the bench in Mark Chivers and Dave Smith gave strength in depth as did young Laurie Essenhigh who came on after Luke Milton left the field.

Will Gough also had a solid game at number eight with fine breaks off the back of the scrum.

Malvern have a week off, returning to action at Spring Lane on Saturday, January 27, when they host Southam (2.15pm).
