NEWENT Rugby Club continued to rule their division after securing the South West Counties Junior Vase title against New Cross.

The leaders followed up the cup final victory with a 36-0 Gloucestershire League Division One victory over Kingswood at the Recreation Ground.

In the 33-10 Vase win over the Devon outfit, fly-half Joe Goatley gave them an early 10-0 lead with a penalty, try and conversion.

Another Goatley try was countered by a penalty before number eight John Duffin crashed over to extend the lead and a visitors’ converted effort made it 20-10 at the break.

Newent, who head to Longlevens tomorrow (2.30pm), added second-half tries through Richard Merrett and Barney Goatley alongside a Joe Goatley penalty.

Their next tie is the South West Junior Vase final at Chesham a week tomorrow.

* Ledbury head to Midlands Three West (South) leaders Old Coventrians tomorrow (2.15pm) after losing 19-3 at Pinley which sent them back to second-frombottom in the table.
