Bonus for Ledbury

A LOSING bonus point moved Ledbury Rugby Club out of the Midlands Three West (South) relegation zone.

They fell 23-20 at Old Wheatleyans after coming within three minutes of recording a third away league win of the season.

But Old Wheatleyans scored a converted try to regain the lead and the visitors could not force a reply. Ledbury moved up to third-from-bottom, one point ahead of Woodrush, and host basement boys Redditch a week tomorrow.

Old Wheatleyans only led by two penalties to one from George Bennion before Ledbury’s Jon Watkins forced an error, enabling Kieram Hallam to score a converted try.

Bennion’s penalty extended the lead but Old Wheatleyans countered with one of their own.

However, several loose kicks would then allow the hosts to move the ball wide for a converted try.

Ledbury replied within five minutes through Jock Welch’s try, converted by Bennion, but they could not keep out Old Wheatleyans.
