MALVERN College fly-half Oliver Allsopp has been selected for the Midlands under 16s squad.

Allsopp has been part of the Worcester Warriors elite performance development group for the last three years.

The 26-strong team was whittled down from seven Midlands squads in the final assessment and they will be on trial this weekend ahead of the divisional festival match against the south-west on February 2.

The players involved in the four divisional teams will be retained until the end of the International Festival at Wellington College in April.

Following the second game at the festival, four divisional squads will be reselected to create a full team, Saxons, Roses and Lions with the latter two of similar strength.

England under 16s play a capped international against Italy under 17s at the Wellington Festival and a further one against Wales under 16s the following week.

The Saxons, Roses and Lions teams will also play the final match day of the Wellington Festival in noncapped internationals.

Master in charge of rugby at Malvern College, Nick Tisdale, said: “We all wish Olly the very best of luck. He has worked extremely hard to get to this stage.”
