BROMYARD Rugby Club secured a 12-6 success at Greyhound in a Midlands Four West (North) Herefordshire derby.

The hosts kicked off with a welcome sun on their backs and immediately exerted pressure on the Bromyard defences.

Matt Swain converted a penalty to give the Hereford side a 3-0 lead.

Awarded a penalty from a five-metre scrum, Bromyard chose to take the set-piece.

Their man-of-the-match, prop Luke Roberts, exerted pressure up front, which enabled number eight Scott Holloway to score a push-over try.

After the turnaround, Bromyard were caught offside and Swain restored the Greyhound lead.

With centre John Parker in the sin-bin for not rolling away, Bromyard did well to survive 10 minutes without conceding.

Greyhound’s Oli Paton then received a yellow card and Bromyard capitalised immediately.

Tom Hulburd made use of the resulting gap to launch the young Bromyard backs, which in turn allowed the returning Parker to touch down in the corner.

Toby Rivers added the conversion to make the score 12-6 to Bromyard.

With seconds left, Greyhound’s Elliot Phillips launched a bullocking run through the middle only to be hauled down feet from the line by John Pudge.

Sixth-placed Bromyard cleared their lines and held on for an exiting win ahead of Saturday's game at home to Harborne.
