LEDBURY seniors celebrated the end of the 2014-15 season in fine form with many notable wins along the way for all three XVs.

The season started slowly with the first two games for the first XV lost but it proved a valuable learning process to establish exactly what were the team’s respective strengths and weakness and how to adapt to use them to their advantage in ensuing games.

From this slow start, the next few Midlands Three West (South) games were a bit hit-and-miss with strong performances but not always with the result going their way.

The highlight of the year proved undoubtedly to be the seven-game unbeaten streak.

This lasted from the start of November until the start of February where the first XV only lost to the league’s top-of-the-table team by one point.

Had the team won that game, there is no doubt that possible promotion to the next level would have been on the cards.

The last two games provided an amazing finale, beating Old Wheatleyans away, the club that beat them to promotion a few years ago, and to get the bonus point of a win away from home was a major achievement.

To cap it all, a rousing performance in beating local rivals Pershore 59-27 for the first XV and the second XV 22-12 in the last games of the season in front of a home crowd, bolstered by a well-attended VP ladies’ lunch, left all on an ecstatic high and bodes well for further progress next season.

The greatest success of the season has been the level of commitment from all players at the club.

With impressive numbers throughout the season attending the training sessions, it made for a tough task in selecting line-ups for all three teams and it was good to see some of the U17 colts champing at the bit to play at senior level.

The end-of-season dinner will be held in the Pavilion Rooms at the Ross Road club on Saturday, May 30.

Tickets are £20 for the black tie event and are available to book now.

Saturday, July 11, sees the staging of the second Seabass Sevens Charity Tournament in honour of Jack Segust and organisers are looking to build on the success of the inaugural event in 2014.
