FORMER Wales skipper Matthew Rees is being linked with a move to Worcester Warriors.

The 34-year-old hooker is believed to be in discussions with Warriors chief Dean Ryan after being released by Welsh region Cardiff Blues last month.

Warriors are searching for a replacement for Argentina captain Gus Creevy, who has left Sixways after making 30 appearances for the club.

Creevy is joining a new Argentina club side in Super 15 and signed off from Worcester last month after helping them to secure promotion back to the Aviva Premier - ship.

Rees, who has also had spells at Llanelli Scarlets and Celtic Warriors, is recovering from shoulder surgery.

He has won 61 caps for his country.

Meanwhile, former Warriors fly-half Joe Carlisle believes Ryan’s men will survive in English rugby’s top tier next season.

Carlisle has joined Championship side London Welsh from Italian Pro12 outfit Treviso.

Carlisle scored 477 points in 92 appearances for Worcester between 2007 and 2013

“Dean Ryan has done a great job and they have a good squad all over,” he said.

“It’s always tough when you bounce back up but I think they have the strength in depth to survive.

“It’s a shame I won’t be able to play against a few friends next year but Worcester deserved to go up."
