HONEY Badgers took the honours in a gripping final against a valiant Ledbury home side in the Jack Segust Memorial Sevens Tournament at Ross Road.

With perfect playing and spectating conditions, the second year of the Seabass Sevens saw an impressive display of skills from all 15 teams.

The day started with group games as Badgers, Bamboo Sevens, Ledbury, Worcester Wanderers, Evesham, Newent, St Pauls Pirates and Wyvern Warriors all made the quarter-finals.

Close matches saw Ledbury, Warriors, Badgers and Bamboo through with the first three teams all having close links to Ledbury and their late player Segust.

In the final, Ledbury lacked the energy and stamina of the more experienced Badgers, who were made up of friends from the local young farmers’ and rugby clubs.

With a big home crowd behind them, Ledbury got off a fine start but it soon faded and Badgers took their chances well to win 39-15.

The day was well supported and raised money for West Midlands Air Ambulance and the special care baby unit at Hereford Hospital.
