MALVERN won 31-3 at Midlands Two West (South) mid-table rivals Nuneaton Old Edwardians.

From the first minute, the Spring Lane side stamped their authority on the game.

On a pitch that a week before had been under water, Malvern caught the kick-off and put it into touch.

They won the OEs line-out, set up a ruck and quickly moved play to Tom Hale on the wing and he scorched 75 metres to score under the posts, giving Ben King an easy conversion.

The hosts kicked a penalty but that was virtually their sole contribution to a game which Malvern dominated throughout.

With the visitors’ pack in rampant mood, they repeatedly gained possession and took two scrums against the head.

Five minutes before half-time, the forwards won a line-out, put in a forward drive and Richard Hobbs was on hand to touch down.

In the second period, Malvern continued to dominate both territory and possession, making light of the swampy conditions.

After some fine loose play by the forwards, they put in another rolling maul to cross the line with Stuart Clark touching down.

The backs were not to be left out as George Roberts intercepted a Nuneaton pass and the veteran winger stormed in with a 50-metre scoring run before King added the extras.

Malvern claimed the bonus point when Adam Dixon’s trademark shimmy wrong-footed the defence and he cut through to ground the ball under the posts. King’s conversion ended proceedings.

Director of rugby David Irish said: “We outshone them in every department with exemplary set-pieces and some excellent work in the loose.

“Even in conditions more suited to 10-man rugby, our lads set the backs off time and again, and the whole team can be proud of their performance.”
