MULTI-TALENTED young sportsman Jake Hill will make his “dreams come true” when he plays at Twickenham tomorrow.

The open-side flanker from Malvern, who is on the books of Worcester Warriors, is set to start for Sedbergh School when they tackle Wellington College in the Natwest Schools Under 15s Cup final (12.30pm).

Many of the current side were not even born when the Cumbrian school last took part in the competition in 2001.

And Hill’s father Eddie believes his 15-year-old son’s side, who defeated Millfield in the semi-finals, have a great chance of creating history for the school.

“The pinnacle in anyone’s rugby career is to play at Twickenham, so to do that at 15 is like a dream come true for him,” he said.

“There has been a lot of talk about Wellington being favourites but the chances of Sedbergh winning are extremely high.

“This is a team who have only lost two games in two years, so they are very confident they can beat them.

“They travelled down to Twickenham and had a guided tour inside. Jake said he was so excited.”

Eddie said the trip to England’s headquarters felt like a reward for the “tremendous” hard work his son had put in.

As well as competing in rugby at a high level, the former Malvern College and Abberley Hall School pupil is also on track to having a strong cricket career.

The promising bowler has played for Herefordshire since the age of seven, is a member of Colwall and has had indoor sessions with Lancashire.

Eddie said he had racked up more than 60,000 miles in the last three years taking his son to various events.

But the 59-year-old insisted his son, who also plays hockey for his school, was determined to be successful.

“He has done exceptionally well to get a scholarship at one of the top rugby schools in the country,” he said. “But he has made huge sacrifices.

“He gets up at 7.30am to train in the indoor gym for cricket and is training everyday in the afternoon during the rugby season. The effort he puts in is tremendous.”

As he continues to make rapid progress in cricket and rugby, Hill will soon have to decide which sport he focuses his efforts on.

Eddie added: “I have asked him numerous times and he has said ‘in the winter I want to play rugby and in the summer I want to play cricket’.

“His skill level in rugby is extremely high because of the coaching he has had but I don’t know which way he is going to go.

“Once he has made that decision, with the determination he has got, I think he will succeed.”
