Pimlow brace in away reverse
11:40am Friday 24th February 2012 in Rugby
UPTON bagged two bonus points from a narrow defeat in their relegation battle at Cheltenham North in Midlands Two West (South) but should have had all five in a game they threw away.
The visitors had secured one bonus point by half-time but lacklustre defence allowed the home side to score three tries of their own before the interval.
Upton’s first score came from out wide.
After the forwards had quickly recycled a few phases the ball went left to Guy Field and he drew his man before Alex Pimlow fed Dan Aldersey to race in at the corner.
However, the story of the match then unfolded as Cheltenham soon equalised after a missed tackle in midfield.
Upton continued to dominate up front and their second try came after Pimlow was held up and from the resultant five-metre scrum the visitors drove the home side back over the line and Bookham touched down.
Upton’s third try came after 30 minutes when winger Alex Flower raced 20 metres before popping back inside for Pimlow to touch down.
Poor tackling from Upton allowed Cheltenham back into the game with a try to make it 15-10 before the Old Street side secured their bonus point with a fourth score and second for Pimlow. Rob Heeley converted.
However, Upton again let Cheltenham straight back in with more missed tackles for their third unconverted try to make the half time score 22-15.
With the wind in their favour in the secondhalf Upton were confident of controlling the game and Heeley’s penalty made it 25-15.
For the next 30 minutes, Upton could not get their hands on the ball but it was not until the final 10 minutes that they conceded two tries.
