Bromyard on the up
5:00pm Friday 9th March 2012 in Rugby
BROMYARD confirmed promotion from Midlands Five West (North) with a 13-7 win over Five Ways Old Edwardians.
The town still have three games left to play and aim to finish the league campaign unbeaten after winning all 13 fixtures so far.
Playing with the wind, Five Ways opened the scoring with their winger storming down the touchline for a converted try.
Bromyard responded by earning a penalty which Reg Dixon put over to make it 7-3 at half-time.
With the wind at their backs, Bromyard played the majority of the second-half in the Five Ways half and the pressure told when James Manning scored a try with Dixon converting.
Confusion reigned when Bromyard pushed the Five Ways scrum over the line and the referee sin-binned their scrum-half for interference.
Bromyard thought a try had been scored but only a penalty was awarded with Dixon doing the honours.
The seconds beat their Five Ways counterparts 50-15 after loaning some players to make up the teams.
Chris Coombes was man-ofthe- match for Bromyard with four tries. Bromyard hosted their round of the Midlands Ladies Touch League, running out undefeated, beating Redditch five tries to nil, Telford 4-0, Pershore 3-1, Ross-on-Wye 3-0, Droitwich Spa 1-0 and Camp Hill 2-0.
The decisive try in the Droitwich game was scored by Kirsty Simon. Bromyard are defending their league title but currently trail Spa by one point with five more tournaments to play.
New players are welcome to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and more details are available at bromyardrfc.
