Warriors stars give a coaching masterclass
5:10pm Monday 23rd April 2012 in Rugby
UPTON’S first team enjoyed a coaching masterclass from Worcester Warriors players Alex Grove, Errie Claassens and Rob Wood.
The club won the QBE Rugby Pro competition, run by the business insurance specialist, to be one of 12 grassroots clubs enjoying a training session with three Premiership players.
Upton also received £1,000 worth of training equipment after demonstrating how the prizes would benefit their development.
Judges were impressed by the community spirit and resilience to fight through the floods that devastated the region in 2007.
The commitment and enthusiasm of the members to re-establish the club shone through.
Upton secretary Rob Heeley said: “The training session taken by the Worcester players was a great success as our team got the opportunity to develop a number of new skills.
“Hopefully, this will greatly benefit the squad as the season reaches its climax.
“We are very grateful to QBE for this fantastic experience and also the new training equipment.”
Grove said: “It has been fun working with Upton and I hope the access to professional players and coaches during the specialist training will inspire them further.”
Upton, who hosted Banbury on Saturday, crashed 55-16 at runaway leaders Barkers Butts last weekend and slipped to third-from-bottom in the table but they are safe from relegation.”
