Setting, Dublin 1986 its all about the hardest working, finest soul band in Dublin, The Commitments.

Young Jimmy Rabbitte the local music expert a working class music fan auditions a number of wannabes after placing a classified ad in a music paper who remarkably turns the bunch of amateur musicians into a brilliant live act who he names The Commitments.

As the boys and girls get to know each other there are plenty of laughs to be had which come thick and fast during the early days as they rehearse for their first gig.

Horn playing legend Joey 'the Lips' who has performed with some of the biggest names in music joined the band albeit getting off with the three backing singers.

Just as the band are getting a name for themselves and the future is looking bright it goes t..'s up, continual arguing and fighting amongst each other the drummer walks out mid gig, the sax player wants a jazz career and Joey has entered Eurovision...

Brian Gilligan full of attitude as Deco delivers a high octane performance (a role he also performed in the the West End). A special mention for the backing singers Bernie (Christina Tedders) with sisters Imelda (Leah Penston) and Natalie (Amy Penston) as the 'Commitmentettes' who were frequently in the spotlight.

Soul classics are what this show is all about, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Mustang Sally, Knock On Wood, River Deep, Mountain High plus loads more a real feast!

Energetic, great fun, wonderful music the hard working cast had the Hippodrome rocking at the end of the evening.

Runs until Saturday, 25th February at the Bristol Hippodrome.
