What a wonderful world it would be if there where more Tracy Turnblad's and Motormouth Maybelle's in the world making a difference.
Hairspray swept the board at The 2003 Tony Awards on Broadway - on Monday it took Bristol by storm on the opening evening.
Its 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland and America was a society still rocked by racism. Every teenager watches The Corny Collins Show and when one of the dancers goes on leave the opportunity opens up to audition. Tracy Turnblad (Rebecca Mendoza) wants the fame and supported by her best friend Penny albeit against the approval of her mother she attends only to be rejected because of her image by the show's producer Velma Von Tussle full of her own self importance.
Mendoza grew in confidence throughout the performance, as did sweet and innocent Penny played by Annalise Liard-Bailey whose chemistry with the charismatic and fun guy Seaweed (Layton Williams) who was outstanding touched your heart.
Brenda Edwards as Motormouth is a class act her phenomenal voice filling the auditorium. Her daughter is also rejected because of her colour.
Together Tracy and Maybelle integrate a mixed bunch of white and black teens and storm the tv studio just as the show's live broadcast began.
The entire cast are to be congratulated on delivering a high octane show.
Hairspray is a huge feel good factor show full of incident - Integration Not Segregation!
Book your tickets now for a great evening at the Bristol Hippodrome which runs until Saturday, 10th March.
