Funk band Kool And The Gang have been honoured with a celebration on Hollywood Boulevard as they unveiled their star on the Walk of Fame.
The musicians, who are marking 50 years together, are best known for their hits Jungle Boogie, Ladies’ Night, Get Down On It and the party anthem Celebration.
Robert “Kool” Bell, his brother Ronald Khalis Bell, Dennis “DT” Thomas and George Brown were introduced on stage by The Jackson 5 star Jermaine Jackson in front of crowds of fans who gathered to watch the ceremony.
Addressing the audience, Jermaine said: “The release of Ladies’ Night and Too Hot in 1979 and Celebration in 1980 led to a non-stop string of million-selling hits, making these evolving superstars the biggest selling band from any genre for the decade of the 1980s, that’s an incredible accomplishment.
“The constant rigorous global touring schedule made them the longest-standing constantly touring band in the world. I thought we were! Wow! Doing what they did at 15 years old but doing it better as the years go by.”
Robert Bell, who was also celebrating his 65th birthday, said: “Hollywood is very special to us, we drove out here many years ago in vans. We couldn’t believe we made it to Hollywood. This is a great thing to get this award today.”
Before unveiling the star, Thomas added: “We didn’t expect to make it this far. We are just glad our music keeps you dancing and tries to keep you happy on this planet.”
