Jess Glynne finally made her debut on the Glastonbury stage after having to cancel her previous year’s performance.
The Right Here singer dazzled in an emerald green sequinned suit that caught the first sun of the day after heavy downpours had left festival goers spending most of the afternoon searching for shelter.
Jess had been due to perform at the festival in 2015 but cancelled because she needed surgery on her vocal cords.
“Last year I had to cancel Glasto, it was really sad, but I definitely don’t think I was meant to be standing on the stage last year. In the past year a lot’s happened and I’m very grateful,” she said, thanking fans for buying her records.
Running through an energetic roster of hits that kept the packed Pyramid field dancing, Jess screamed: “I’m here to bring love and happiness because the weather is so awfully shitty.”
After a poignant tribute to MP Jo Cox and a raucous fan-organised singalong in David Bowie’s memory on Thursday, Glastonbury continues to honour those who died this year.
Later on in the night Hot Chip will remember singer Prince in an hour-long DJ set.
In neighbouring NYC Downlow, New York DJ Roger Sanchez will lead a two-hour tribute to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.
Muse take the first headline slot of the festival on the Pyramid Stage.
ZZ Top kept the crowd singing along with fan favourites including Foxy Lady, Tush and I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide.
Many fans attended the set at the Pyramid Stage in long fake beards, a tribute to the band’s two front-men Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons and their trademark facial hair.
