ONE of the finest string quartets in the world, the celebrated Maggini Quartet, will be raising the rafters in the Great Barn at Hellens, Much Marcle, near Ledbury.
And the music on offer will be a mix of time-hallowed classics and modern vision.
They will play the fourth quartet from Haydn’s groundbreaking Op 20 set, the so-called ‘Sun’ Quartets; Schubert’s great ‘Death and the Maiden’ Quartet which has become one of the cornerstones of the
entire chamber music repertoire; and a new work by acclaimed composer Derek Smith, his Sixth Quartet.
A spokesman said: “This carefully chosen programme will surely captivate with music of sublime beauty, elegance, serenity and passion and with the hint of intrigue which comes from a new work by a respected present-day composer.”
The quartet will be playing on Friday, October 26, at 7.30pm.
Tickets can be purchased from the Hereford Courtyard box office on 01432 340555 or online at courtyard.org.uk
