BLUE Remembered Hills by the celebrated Dennis Potter is being staged at the Market Theatre in Ledbury on Saturday, March 20.

New Century Theatre Company has secured exclusive professional performing rights to Blue Remembered Hills, which is a play about a group of children playing games during the war. Set in the Forest of Dean in the summer of 1943 a group of seven-year-olds play silly games and with their bullying and cruelty challenge our perceptions of childhood. It is a brilliant and sometimes hilarious evocation of childhood games but the teasing, cruelty and bullying end in tragedy. In this production the children’s characters are all played by adults.

The original production was first seen as a BBC ‘Play For Today’ and featured Helen Mirren(Prime Suspect) and Colin Welland(Z Cars).

Dennis Potter is best known for his TV play The Singing Detective. As a child he was brought up in the Forest Of Dean where the Blue Remembered Hills is set.

The performance in Ledbury is part of a 10th anniversary Spring tour for New Century Theatre. The company was founded in 2000 to give local actors the opportunity of professional work in the West Midlands region. The company has grown and thrived and Blue Remembered Hills follows their successful and popular production of Blythe Spirit.
