Severn Trent is to give people in Ludlow the chance to have their say on plans to install new water pipes in the Shropshire town.

The company is planning to replace two kilometres of water pipes to make sure customers have an even more reliable water supply that’s there whenever they need it.

Dave Kiernan, who is leading the project, explains: “We know how important it is for our customers to be able to get home from a long day at work and relax with a cup of tea or in a hot shower.

“A reliable water supply is so important to everyday life and the existing pipes have been in use for some time which is why we’re carrying out this work now, to avoid leaks and bursts happening in the future.

“But, before we start, we’re asking people in Ludlow to come out and meet with us to discuss our plans and to raise any issues they might have.”

The drop-in session will take place in the Board Room at The Clive which is located near Ludlow Food Centre, off the A49, on Wednesday 13 December between 3pm and 7pm.

The majority of the work will take place on private land alongside the A49 Bromfield Road, although there will be times that temporary traffic lights will be required to provide access for the engineers.

The pipe replacement is due to start on Tuesday 2 January and will begin near to Ludlow Food Centre and finish near Felton Farm

“We know this type of work can sometimes be disruptive and that’s why we want to meet with as many people as possible to make them aware of the work and reassure them about the long-term benefits it will have," added Mr Kiernan.

“We expect it will take around five months to complete, and, we’ll work as quickly as we can to get this finished and we really believe the end result will be worth it, providing a reliable water supply for the people of Ludlow for many years to come.”

Towards the end of the project, Severn Trent will put a temporary closure on the road leading towards the quarry from the A49 to allow engineers from Amey to work safely.
