WITH the help of a supermarket, pupils at a school in Hereford have benefited from the development of an outdoor woodland area in their playground.

Blackmarston School in Honddu Close won a grant of £12,000 from Tesco Bags of Help to develop a sensory woodland area to create an inclusive outdoor learning environment.

Over the past 18 months pupils, staff, families and friends have worked together to assist with the project.

All staff have been trained in outdoor education and waterproof outdoor clothing for the children has been purchased to ensure pupils can use the area whatever the weather.

A pagoda was designed specifically for the children to enable inclusive education, providing an area for children to sit and enjoy activities in a sheltered environment.

There is also a potting station and a mud kitchen to allow for sensory play.

The outdoor area means the children at Blackmarston School can learn about and connect with the natural world in a safe environment.
