A RETIRED engineer died from natural causes after being transferred from Hereford County Hospital to Birmingham, an inquest has heard.

Colin Wilkinson, 79, died on June 5 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Mr Wilkinson was admitted to Hereford County Hospital on May 16 following a fall in his garden which fractured his hip.

The inquest at Herefordshire Coroner's Court heard how he was transferred to Birmingham on May 23 after it was discovered he was suffering from heart disease which required surgical intervention.

Mr Wilkinson, of Long Reach, Shobdon, suffered a cardiac arrest during the surgery.

Mr Wilkinson died despite the best efforts of medics who tried to resuscitate him.

Summing up, Coroner Mark Bricknell said it was necessary for Mr Wilkinson to have been transferred due to the complexity of his condition.

He added: "Unfortunately nothing could be done to save his life."

Mr Bricknell attributed Mr Bricknell's death to natural causes.
