THE closure of Holmer Road in Hereford for resurfacing works has been pushed back by a week.

The A49 will be shut from Holmer Road roundabout to Newton Road on weekday nights from Monday, September 17 to Friday, October 12 between 8pm and 6am.

The closure was originally planned start on Monday September 10.

Diversions will be in place while white lining is renewed and road studs are replaced between Church Way and Newtown Road.

Highways England said the work will improve safety and make it easier for drivers to use "this section of the road network".

"During the full closure access will not be restricted to properties and businesses located within the closure and this will be controlled and coordinated via the on-site traffic marshals who will safely escort vehicles through the closure," said Andy Wilson, customer service manager with Highways England.

"Designated lay-by areas will be implemented to access via the traffic marshals with minimal disruption."
