AN INDEPENDENT Hereford pub is celebrating after being listed in this year's Good Beer Guide on its first attempt.

Gordon Bennetts, based on St Peters Street, made the prestigious CAMRA-compiled list the first time it was eligible to be included.

The pub was praised by CAMRA for the quality and condition of the real ales on offer.

It also won plaudits for its wide selection of spirits, lagers and ciders.

Only 9% of the pubs in the country make it into the guide, owner Robert Bennett said.

Robert explained how since the pub was listed, beer enthusiasts from outside the county have visited Gordon Bennetts to try out the ale on offer.

The pub opened in September 2016 and has proved a hit with customers thanks to its real ale selection and regular live music.

Former bank manger Robert opened the pub two years ago after making a career change from his role at Barclays in Hereford.
