A SERIES of free health podcasts featuring young people from Herefordshire has won a coveted award.

The ‘Health Uncovered’ podcast won silver in the ’Best Podcast’ category at the national Arias awards for the UK's audio and radio industry.

The series, hosted by TV and radio personality Cel Spellman, featured young people discussing issues such as sexual health, bullying, grooming, substance misuse, mental health and the pressure of social media.

The podcasts were released in November 2017 and have so far been downloaded 17,000 times.

The team battled it out with established broadcasting stars, including the BBC's Fearne Cotton, at the awards ceremony in Leeds.

The pilot, which was made in collaboration between Herefordshire and Shropshire Councils, together with Warwickshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, was narrowly beaten by Griefcast’ hosted by Cariad Lloyd.

Councillor Elissa Swinglehurst, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “The award is a fantastic achievement and is recognition of how articulate the young people involved were when they were talking about health issues.

"Well done to everyone involved.”
