PUPILS at Kingstone High School marked International Literacy Day by writing about their 'dream job', with their work being showcased at Hereford Library.

A mermaid, tennis player, a member of the armed forces and a fashion designer were some of the choices made by students as they marked the UNESCO annual celebration which raises awareness of the importance of literacy around the world.

Aimee Miller, Lydia Freeman, Luke Edwards, Sam Saunders and Rosie Morgan were crowned the winners of their respective year groups for their writing.

Oliver Goodman-Todd, Emma Krtilova, Evie Cobb, April Easdale and Hollie Preece were awarded runners-up while Alison Watkins, Reuben Goodman, Ffern Worwood, Hannah Guy and Louise Ross-Hoffman were highly commended.

Lydia Freeman was also presented with the overall winner’s International Literacy Day trophy.

All were treated cupcakes and pizza to celebrate their achievement.

The winning entries will be displayed at Hereford Library during November and December.
