A PROLIFIC Rhyl fundraiser has temporarily traded in his poppy appeal tin for Santa's sack.

Rhyl Royal British Legion fundraiser Richard Kendrick and his team off 11 volunteers have raised £609.44 for North Wales Superkids on the town's annual Santa Pub crawl.

Starting off at the Ffordd Derwen on Rhuddlan Road, elves, a Christmas pudding and Santa himself began the rounds that saw them call in to a further 12 pubs along the route, where one passer by even donated £20 in exchange for a selfie with Mr Kendrick in his white beard.

Mr Kendrick said: "I think this was definitely the best yet, we had a fantastic reception in Rhyl - it was lovely.

"That we managed to raise so much and make such an impact was great, given that the weather was really windy and wet and Rhyl was dead."

In addition to raising money for the charity, which runs a toy box appeal for disadvantaged children, the festive ensemble also accepted toy donations and emptied donation boxes around the town.

Mr Kendrick added: 2The toys people have donated have been amazing - I've had to fill the car to drop them off twice already. I think we'll have more than 3,000 presents from Rhyl this year."
