THE fire service has warned householders to store logs away from woodburners.
Firefighters from Kingland and Leominster were called to a house fire in Orleton at 2pm on Tuesday.
The property was heavily smoke-logged on arrival and a dog was rescued.
The fire involved a woodburning stove and wood which was stacked next to the stove.
The Kingsland fire service said it could have been a serious fire but thanks to smoke alarms, a neighbour was alerted and put a call in, which meant serious damage was prevented.
Wood stacked next to the burner caught alight and firefighters said residents should keep wood away from burners.
The property and neighbouring property were ventilated.
