A NURSERY in Ledbury has revealed details of an action plan to re-open after being closed down by Ofsted following a surprise inspection.

The Playstation Day Nursery, near the train station, has been given until February 18 to comply with a number of measures, not least “regarding the heating of the premises and hot water supply”.

Playstation owner, Ann Brennan, told the Reporter she wasn't expecting to hear from Ofsted until next week on when the nursery can re-open.

She said: “I would like to thank the parents for being so supportive and for their kind words during these unforeseen circumstances.”

On the work done, she added: “Further to an inspection by the plumber it was found that two radiators were not functioning adequately; as a result of this the radiators will be serviced and reinstated. New thermometers were installed throughout the building on Thursday February 7."

When the nursery re-opens “staff will be responsible for checking the ambient temperature of the nursery throughout the day using daily safety checks”. A plumber will fit all hot water taps with a reducer valve to regulate the flow of water and a further mixer on the single sink will also be installed “so as to ensure that the hot water is maintained at a suitable temperature”.

Miss Brennan herself is undertaking courses on staff training and safer recruitment training, following criticism from Ofsted on those issues.

A greater emphasis will be placed on staff inductions and continuous training.

There will be a strong focus on whistleblowing, to highlight any problems, and staff will attend regular minuted meetings, when any concerns may be raised.

Strategies will ensure that staff have “time to discuss sensitive issues to promote the welfare and learning of all children”.

Key workers will draw up “behaviour management profiles for individual pre-school children”. One to one staff appraisals will “ensure sensitive issues can be discussed in confidential environment”.

The nursery must also ensure that there are enough qualified staff on the premises at all times, to ensure the required child to staff ratio.
