A Herefordshire chippy has been named one of the best 50 in the UK.

The Fiddlers Elbow Fish & Chips in Rosemary Lane, Leintwardine, is the only chippy in the county to make the prestigious list.

The award follows a search by trade publication Fry Magazine to find those takeaways serving up the finest fish suppers.

To make the top 50 Fiddlers Elbow had to impress a mystery diner who marked the chippy on more than 40 aspects of their business from the quality of the food and customer service to cleanliness and value for money.

It scored an impressive 98% with the mystery diner particularly praising the very tidy, clean and welcoming shop.

There was also praise for digital screens informing customers about sourcing and ingredients, particularly for people with allergies.

“The fish was delicious, chips were nicely cooked, free from excess oil,” said the diner. “The staff were friendly, passionate and knowledgeable about the business.”

Owners Dominic Eusden and Linzi Morris said: “It means a lot to our business as it recognises the hard work the team do on a daily basis.”
