THE parkrun movement is coming to Ross-on-Wye.

The free-to-enter 5k run (3.1 miles) will start at 9am every Saturday. It will follow a course along the riverside, and will start near the town's sports centre, where the cafe will be open afterwards.

Volunteers will staff the event, which is expected to boost both health and local tourism.

One of the organisers, local GP Dr Simon Lennane said people often choose to visit somewhere based on their attendance at a parkrun, and it would be an opportunity to promote Ross.

He added: "Parkrun is an international event happening across the globe, so it is exciting that Ross-on-Wye is now part of a worldwide movement."

Local GP surgeries are supporting the run and are encouraging their patients to get involved. Anyone can take part, and runners of all levels will be welcome.

Funds are still being raised to set up the run, but the target is close.

Most of the set-up costs have been pledged already, but we have not quite reached the funding target, so donations are most welcome. If you would like more information, including how to donate or volunteer to help e-mail rossparkrun@gmail.com
