A HEREFORD man is gearing up to celebrate his sixth wake after receiving a devastating diagnosis.

Pete Clinton was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014 and, facing major surgery, the father-of-one began to make preparations for his funeral and wake - just in case.

Then aged 65, Pete refused to let the disease get the better of him, and organised the perfect send-off, to be held at the Barrels pub and featuring a number of blues bands.

Luckily for Pete, and despite complications during surgery, he pulled through.

But with plans for his wake well under way, he and landlord Phil Pryce decided to go ahead with the event anyway.

"I told Phil I don't mind having to pay for it when I'm dead, but I'm not paying for it while I'm still here," Pete said.

"He asked me how much it would cost, and it went from there! It proved so popular that it's now become an annual event."

Initially held at the St Owen's Street pub, the annual event has since moved to its new home at the Richmond Place Club.

Featuring blues bands The Bare Backs, Vincent Flatts and Mosquitos, the event will raise money for two vital local charities, St Michael's Hospice and Martha Trust and promises to 'raise the dead to celebrate the living!'

Pete Clinton's Sixth Wake will be held at the Richmond Place Club, Edgar Street on May 26.

Doors open at 3pm and all are welcome to join the party.
