At Newent Town Council’s annual general meeting, on Monday May 13, Councillor Mrs June Davies was unanimously re-elected as town mayor of Newent.

Remarkably, it will be Cllr Davies’ third year as mayor.

Cllr Davies said “I am honoured that my colleagues have put their confidence in me, to elect me to this prestigious position for another year.

As a Council we will strive to complete projects already in hand as well as embark on new ones to enhance our town”.

Cllr Christine Howley was elected as Deputy Mayor for the first time.

Cllr Howley said “I am delighted to have been chosen to perform this very important role for the Council as well as the community.

"I look forward to working closely with the mayor in promoting our town.

" I am sure that the next year will be very busy but enjoyable”.
