If you really must see scarecrows this summer, head to Wellington Heath.

Visitors will be able to follow a fun scarecrow trail and help a deserving charity at the same time.

The village, near Ledbury, is planning a scarecrow competition with the theme of “fictional character’, to run for two weeks from July 20, and all in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.

A spokesman said: “The idea is for people resident in Wellington Heath to make a scarecrow and put on show in their garden or window so that it’s clearly visible from the road.

“Once all the entries are in, a ‘Guess the Scarecrow’ question sheet will be on sale, along with a map trail.

“Scarecrows can be made using any materials an format and should represent a fictional character. The term ‘scarecrow’ should be interpreted loosely; they do not have to be made from straw, or even have two sticks!”
