A SECONDARY school which was told by Ofsted it 'requires improvement' has been taking steps in the right direction.

Aylestone School had a monitoring visit from Ofsted on Thursday, May 2 which was as a result of their grading in 2016.

The report states that the senior leaders and governors at the school are 'taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement...in order for the school to become good'.

The letter highlights the fact that the school's ethos has been changed, rebuilding 'the school's reputation within the local community' and that 'pupils are courteous, polite, friendly and respectful to each other, adults and visitors'.

It also states improvements are clearly evident because of pupils' behaviour, attendance and the quality of teaching and learning.

Executive Headteacher, Simon Robertson, said: "This letter gives us definitive evidence that we are moving in the right direction and I'm so pleased that the hard work being done by everyone here has been acknowledged.

"We know there are still areas where improvement is needed, and are committed to work required, but it is clear that OfSTED have recognised the progress we are making.

"To read comments like, 'teachers have strong relationships with pupils and know them well', 'pupils now value their education and learning' and that 'pupils' behaviour during lessons and around school is calm and orderly' is really satisfying.

"I am really proud of the work my staff have been doing and how our pupils have responded to the improvements that we have been making. The report states that staff value the support that senior leaders here provide and we will all continue to learn from each other."

Mr Robertson said they would continue to engage with other schools to ensure improvements continue.
