A party from The Mormon Heritage Association of USA arrived in Ledbury on Monday for their annual visit, to walk in the footsteps of their forefathers.

There to meet them was town crier, Clive Gunn who welcomed them on behalf of the mayor, Cllr Phillip Howells, the town council and all the residents of Ledbury.

Mr Gunn added: "There were also elders from another American group currently on tour in the UK. and a number of local residents with Mormon connections."

"The group also received a warm welcome from Ledbury Rotary president, Jan Long.

Mr Gunn added: "The group spread out to enjoy lunch in Ledbury and an essential visit to Butchers Row House, which records details of the start of the Mormons on the Herefordshire/Gloucester/Worcestershire borders.

"Later they went on to visit The Malvern Hills especially the site where their founders gathered."

In 1840, Mormon missionary Wilford Woodruff preached at Hill Farm in Castle Frome. Woodruff also spoke to members of the United Brethren, a group of over 600 dissenters from the Methodist church.

In five days Woodruff baptised 32 people from the congregation, many in a pond at Hill Farm, which still exists.
